Dr. Daniel Ramallo: education, credentials and experience

Academic training

Dr. Daniel Ramallo wanted to be a doctor from an early age. To care for patients in a humane and comprehensive way, he completed two degrees: first Physical Therapy, then Medicine, where he was class speaker and graduated with honors.

During medical school he completed a specialization in Human Biomechanics at UFRJ (title granted on July 25, 2006), with an academic paper that placed second at a national congress. Biomechanics is the foundation for understanding injuries and planning treatment and surgery.

Residency and specialist titles

Selected through a competitive exam, he did his medical residency in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (INTO), one of the country's largest and most traditional orthopedic teaching institutions. He then received:

• full member status of the Brazilian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (SBOT);
• specialist title from the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB).

Selected again at INTO, he completed sub-specialty training in orthopedic trauma surgery and complex joint reconstruction, earning the specialist title from the Brazilian Society of Orthopedic Trauma (SBTO).

International experience and master's degree

In 2014, invited after his performance at INTO, he did an immersion in joint reconstruction techniques at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle (USA), a reference in highly complex orthopedic surgery. After the fellowship he was invited to teach courses in Brazil, Germany and Portugal.

Back in Brazil, he was accepted into the first master's class at INTO and defended his thesis in a public session in 2016, in sciences applied to the musculoskeletal system. He also completed the Executive MBA in Healthcare at FGV.

Current work

Dr. Daniel is General Coordinator of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department at Hospital São Lucas de Copacabana, Adjunct Professor at IDOMED and CEO of OrthoConstellation, a medical training company in knee and hip replacement. He sees patients in private offices in Ipanema and Largo do Machado.
